Hi all,
These past few months has been pretty full on with birthdays and, of course!, cake making! I have three daughters whose birthdays are all within about 37 days, and this was the first year I've been game enough to attempt fondant. Having said that though it was a lot easier than I thought it would be!

My now 2 year old LOVES Piglet from Winnie the Pooh and has a special pink blankie that she won't go anywhere without so the design for her cake was easy enough! I made a simple butter cake (GF) tinted pink in 3 layers with chocolate ganache sandwiched in between (to look like Piglet's tummy). I covered it in green buttercream icing and made the decorations out of fondant. It didn't turn out exactly how it looked in my head but I was happy with it and the birthday girl had the hugest grin when she saw it! I bought pre made white fondant from the supermarket and coloured it using food colouring and heaps of icing sugar Smiley

My 4 year old is into fairies at the moment and has been given a few fairy books lately so that seemed to be the route to take with her cake. I googled pictures of fairy cakes and came up with a Fairy Toadstool theme. This was a (GF) chocolate cake baked in a giant cupcake pan and when it was cooled I inverted the base and covered it in homemade marshmallow fondant. This by far exceeded my expectations and I am really proud of how it turned out! It did take while to decorate it, but that's to be expected with three kids clamouring to help out! lol.

And now onto the last cake Smiley My baby turned one today and I wanted to make something simple and easy. I went with a "1" shaped cake covered in white marshmallow fondant with pink butterflies. I had a bit of trouble getting the corners of the sides smooth with the fondant covering - hence the ribbon- but I think the overall effect was pretty good, especially being only my third time using fondant!

Thanks for taking the time to look at my creations and please feel free to comment! Smiley

That 1 cake is beautiful!  And the fairy cake is something else...  Can you make my birthday cake too?  It's not until November, so you'll have a break! xD
