That is really cool!  I always thought crochet might be good for baskets.  That's another thing on my list of stuff to make.

@karindanielle...yeah, it can be difficult and it is definitely not easy on the hands, but the biggest key I found was making sure my stitches stayed loose. It doesn't make it easy, but certainly less impossible! Wink

@Cayora...crocheted baskets are great and really strong too! They can hold up to an awful lot of abuse!

Sorry pops  Sad sounds like your luck runs along the same vein as mine! Day late or dollar short kinda thing!  Cheesy  But now you know what to do next time you save them up! For the record, it does save your sanity and hands a little in the long run if you go ahead and cut up the bags and chain them together into plarn as you get them instead of trying to do them all at once. Then you can just save up the balls in a project bag until you have enough to make the basket. Works great that way! AND...you can still recycle the parts and pieces you cut off!

They do add up quickly, don't they?! And it really doesn't take as many as you might think to make a basket this size! I would love to see a picture when you're done!!!  Grin

mine are a mix of tesco (mainly white with blue stripes) and sainsburys (bright orange!) so not as subtle and basket-y as yours Cheesy but very happy way to spend time sitting with my kids while they xbox - actually they are pretty fascinated, especially with the special way of cutting the bags into plarn, like i'm going to let them have my rotary cutter, yeah right Tongue

My kids just think I'm crazy when I do things like this (they're 17 and 20)! They think IT'S cool...just that I'M crazy! LOL  Wish I had access to bright orange bags, I would love to make a fun colored basket for my son since he's responsible for his own laundry!
