A couple months ago at an all-day sew with my quilt guild I asked a friend to help me with hexies. I had tried them on my own but had trouble with them. She showed me a few tricks and now I love hand stitching hexagons! I needed a table runner and used mostly cute fabric I had picked out from another friend's scrap bags. I don't love how I did the binding and am contemplating re-doing it, but for now am happy with my bright table runner!

Great work! I tried hexies and gave them up, I didn't like doing them - too fiddly or something. Maybe I just needed a friend with some tricks!

So pretty and has an aged look because of the muted shades of color. Smiley

I just discovered Hexies the other day. I haven't tried them yet, but I love the look. Your table runner looks great!

This is awesome, MareMare.  You need to share your hexie tips.  And I don't know why you  don't like the binding!

Up close the binding doesn't look great lol!

The main thing I learned was that instead of using a template to cut out out the fabric so that the fold over part was exactly 1/4 inch bigger, was to just pin the paper template to my fabric and freeform cut around it with the scissors so there was more like 1/2 inch of fabric to fold over. Made a world of difference in being able to baste them faster and more easily! The other thing was that two different people showed me how they basted the hexies so I tried both to see what I liked better. One was just stitching through each "corner" once and to stitch through the paper, and the other was to take tiny stitches (two to a "corner") and not go through the paper, just get a little of each side of the fold.
