Last year's Supanova in Brisbane I made my very first costume. Harley Quinn! She is the pretty much the only female in comics that I actually like {well liked. She's being upstaged by love of Aquaman's wife, Mera!}.

I was tempted to try and draft my own pattern, but I really was intimidated by the whole hat thing. I knew I could probably figure out a body suit and the booties but the hat really... it's so beyond anything I've ever done. So instead I bought Holly Messinger's Harley Quinn costume pattern. Totally worth it. I was so intimidated by sewing with lycra AND doing invisible zippers and I nailed them both!

I was going to have a progress blog about it, but I only wrote for one day in it before I whipped it up. You can check out that one post on my costuming blog herehaha. There is also this post I wrote where I brainstormed about how I was going to BE Harley Quinn!

The booties were really fun to make, although when I'm not pregnant anymore I'm thinking about redoing them.

I walked around in them for 2 days at Supanova on the bitumen, carting my little boy on my hip and the bottoms didn't even scuff! And all I used for the bottoms was a scrap of black fake leather I scored at an op shop!

Wearing body hugging spandex took a lot of guts, mainly because in 2010 I had put on A LOT of weight and by 2011 I was starting to lose it. I still wasn't at my usual weight {hell I weigh less now and I'm 7months pregnant!} but I felt really good as Harley!

I even met up with Elise Archer who is THE Harley Quinn. Fo Realz.

Elise's costume is MADE by the woman I bought the pattern from. I remember sussing out the costume subtly, and I know how to do things differently. The Collar is seperate from the hood, whereas in the pattern it is joined. It's fine, but I did find that like a cm of my neck skin kept peeking through if I didn't keep pulling it down. Also my horns are wayyyy too perky. haha.

There were a few Harleys there, I'm the bigger Harley with the g-string line >.>

The only thing that let me down was the white makeup. I really need to get some GOOD white make-up because the stuff I wore on day 1 cracked and was AWFUL. And the second day I got my friend who is a make-up artist to do me real quick. It was much better but I want WHITER.

Chilling with an R5 ^_^
