pink, black & white scrap dress!

just finished today. i love it SO MUCH. i worked on it for about a week & a half, almost every day. this is an exceptionally long time for me. & i loved every minute of it.





i'm wondering about the front skirt though, now that i'm looking at these pictures. anyway.

i couldn't get enough of photographing it, hehe. there are all manner of things in here: clothes worn once, half of a failed corset, all kinds of scraps, an atari teenage riot shirt, a never worn bra, zippers, a bandanna from my childhood, a much cherished broken bracelet, a petticoat that wasn't full enough, a garter belt...

i molded this on my dressform, instead of working from out of a pre-drawn pattern. it was so much fun to do! sewing all of it together a little less.

Wowza! This dress is amazing! I love all the different bits of lace and details.
One bit of constructive criticism.. That plastic circular thingy on the back doesn't fit with the dress. It sticks out and that's all I can see when I look at the back. It takes away from the overall genius of your creation. Maybe it's because it's white on the black fabric it really stands out. Or maybe it's the size or because it's plastic. I don't know it just doesn't fit. Great job overall!!! Love it!

Beautifully balanced in a totally asymmetrical way! This kind of thing isn't easy to do, and harder to do well, so I'm really in awe of what you've done. And while I get what AkronIndyCraft means about the white plastic spool on the back, I don't really agree that it's out of place there. It kind of serves the same purpose as the bold black-and-white t-shirt lettering - it keeps your eye moving and keeps it from being too aesthetically "comfortable". But as it does physically stick out, I can imagine it'll prove to be annoying when you're wearing it!

Any chance of a modelling photo? I bet this looks amazing on you!
