Tablet weaving , an epic story

Hi , I was keen to try tablet/card weaving so had to make a loom.
I first tried to make one out of a clipboard but found it was way too small.



so then a chair seemed like a possibilty



I managed to make a nice metre and a half of braid, but lets face it, not a very portable option....



then I tried using a stool, converted and now christened, the "ankle loom"



and found it was easier to use the coffee table to measure the threads



I used up all the blue white and green thread in the house and made a three metre length of braid



Eager to test my meager wood working skills, I made a small loom, based on a loom I saw a lady make with a spice rack and two toilet paper holder, aka the "bog loom" short for bog roll loom.



It actually works quite well, though I still need a ton of practice

and last night I made about two metres of dark red and white, not photographed yet,

That is quite a number of looms! You are very creative and determined it seems Your braids are very nice. What will you use them for?

I have joined the SCA and am making some clothing and will use it as trim and belts.
I have sewn the first braid around the neck and wrists of a white linen under dress.
And possibly swap for things others make.
( ps I am trying to make mead and that will be fun too!)

I am desperately trying to get my outfits ( 3) and accessories ready for this weekend, a medieval camp.
Would love to finish a belt, and head scarf at least, but am hoping to do some weaving on weekend also.
Will take pic of latest weaving and post, posted!

 I had no idea what this was so I kept asking myself where the cards went! LOL! Wow! What an undertaking. It turned out really neat. I would never have the patience. Great job!

lol, this is why I had to try it! I read about it and could not get my head around how the cards worked, I am more of a hands on person.
No one around me seemed to have tried it so with a lot of googling I gave it a go.
Thanks for the feedback, and the only part you really need patience with is setting it up ready to weave. I couldn't believe the first time I tried threading up, it took me an hour!
It is really nice just rotating the cards and seeing the pattern come to life.
I am hoping to be able to make braid with a picture of a viking ship one day for a friend, lol, not skilled enough yet!

Mead is quite an undertaking. You'll need to give yourself lots of time! My fiance and I have so much mead fermenting in our kitchen right now -- it will be so strange next year to have them gone and have our floor space back!
