I've heard/read wonderful things about the SCA. I'm impressed with your weaving. Inspiration! I want to learn to weave so bad and join the SCA, too. With their powers (of persuasion) combined... maybe I'll do them both together sometime! Thanks!

thanks for the info PerfectlyBohemian, at the moment its just one large 5litre bottle fermenting on my bench and two boxes of empty bottles, but I can see how if the first batch works, I will be making more!
Do you have a prefered recipe?
Thanks for the feedback jexxican  , I only joined the SCA in January after being interested for years, I am so glad I did!
If your interested, I have made a fair bit of garb also, and need to weave a whole lot more to decorate it with.

Heres a belt I just finished using the braid, I would like to have used a blue braid and embroidered more but I am running out of time, I need to wear it this weekend.

Took the pics over white linen under dress, which I have added my braid to at wrist and neckline, so you can see how I use it 





I am pretty happy and looking forward to making some more braid this weekend.

I love how you employed just about every piece of household furniture in your quest for the perfect loom! The cord you wove is beautiful, and so intricate!

Also, that first loom, the clipboard one with the cards still in it, looks like a piece of art.

i love the weaving, its very interesting. i might have to try it at some point. out of curiosity (i may sound like a dummy, but google didn't help), what is the SCA you're all referring to?

Firstly the SCA is the Society for Creative Anachronism, basically a group of people who like to get together to re-enact life in the middle ages, from the 6th to 16th centurys. So there is a lot of scope!
theres garb ( clothing ) all sorts of crafts, mead making, cooking, armour, archery, dancing, medieval music, pretty much any part of what normal life would be like , oops I nearly forgot, sword fighting and heavy armoured combat, which I find a lot of fun to watch!

I have just returned home from the most amazing camping weekend with the local SCA group, so much fun!
rackycoo, lol, I think I have tried everything in my house to weave on hehe!
I wove a braid 184cm long on the weekend, mostly while watching the heavy fighters and chatting, so theres a few mistakes, but I wont be pointing them out hehe. It was good to practice anyway.
A gentleman has made me a lucit? not sure how to spell it, so I am learning that at the moment too.
I will be weaving him some braid in exchange.
I also saw the most awesome loom a lady had, but I still like mine as its the right size to sit on my knee and work on. She had a beautiful design.
Sorry to rabbit on! Just two quick things, am going to make a modification to the loom tomorrow, and also going to see my butcher about some bones to try my hand at making bone tablets/cards.

that sounds way cool! theres a medieval faire a few hours from me every summer, i've always wanted to go. make sure you show us the bone cards, those sound awesome.
