I had pinned this idea on Pinterest and finally decided to try it out.  I'm quite polish obsessed (too much according to DH) and had bought out some of the Color Club Art Club art polishes a while back ($0.50 each on sale!).  I haven't used them yet, because I'm not too steady with the skinny brushes and they sat for a while.  I decided to dig out the neon rainbow colors and give this manicure a try.

1. Clean your nails and give them a good base coat of choice (I used Seche Base Ridge Filler since it's milky white).
2. Remember ROYGBIV (Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet) when making a rainbow.  Obviously, there is no indigo and the red is replaced with hot pink.  Start with the (R) and paint skinny lines from the cuticle to the nail tip and continue with each color until you have a whole rainbow on your nails.  It looks pretty enough like this and you could leave it, but it really pops with the black shatter ;-)
3. After your rainbows have dried about 15-20 minutes, polish on a thin layer of black shatter (I like OPI) and let this dry.
4. Finished with a top coat of choice - I used Seche Vite for an ultra glossy finish.  This could probably look pretty cool finished with a matte top coat, but I happen to love a glossy shine.
5. Clean up shop, chances are, you got a little polish on your cutes and the edges - I know I did.  Use a small angled paint brush dipped in nail polish remover to clean the edges and cuticle areas.

DH loved this so much, he told me not to spend money on a salon mani again LOL  Okay, I'll just buy more polish with it ;-)

I love this! I'll definitely be getting the colors of the rainbow that I'm missing soon so I can do this. Thanks for sharing!

Super groovy idea!  Glad you could take a super bargain and turn it into such a great idea!  If I was better at painting my own nails, I would be all over this! I think this has been the best use of crackle I've seen.

Congratulations!
This is literally the first time I've seen the "shatter" look and liked it, haha!

I honestly hate the look of the shatter nail polish, but this is absolutely beautiful.  Smiley

I love it!! I've never been too much of a nail polish person because I chew on my nails a LOT.... but I've been pinning SO many pretty nails that I've decided to start doing stuff like this as inspiration to NOT chew anymore Smiley. I think I'm going to give this a go for my upcoming "Why So Serious" concert <3

I'm a nail chewer too, but as long as I keep polish on my nails (and put new polish on when it starts to chip) I am pretty good about growing them out and not biting them!

I love it!! It's got a similar feel to one of my fave crackle mani's I did last summer... I call it cracked sunset

Closest to the nail bed I used yellow, orange, reddish pink, and purple. Then I applied a coat of China Glaze, Crackle Glaze in cracked concrete.  I topped it off with an anti-chip top coat!!

Love your nails!  I've used the black crackle but only on my toes - so far I've used pink and yellow as under colors - and I get lots of comments on them.  Might have to try the rainbow effect sometime.

My daughter is a nail chewer as well... we bought an anti-bite nail polish.  It is made by sinful colors (sold at Wal-greens).  She doesn't bite them when I put that on as a top or base coat Wink

I love those nails! I am obsessed with experimenting with new colours but Ive always had horrible luck with the nailpolish that cracks. I find that it always cracks too little or just blobs up and doesnt look right. Is there a specific trick to get it to look awesome like yours?
