So when I was a child, I had these books that scared the bejesus out of me, called "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark".  The book has since been re-released, WITHOUT the scary pictures!!  <gasp!>

My friend also used to read the same books, so when he asked for a painting for his birthday, I thought I would commemorate a book that we probably will never get our hands on again by painting him the cover.  Here it is--it's a copy of the original work by Stephen Gammell.

Yeah, If I was still 10, and saw that on a cover of a book, I'd be scared poopless. Yikes!  Heck I'm 30 now, and it still creeps me out! Great work Cheesy

Very cool!  How could they re-release it without the images, that was part of what made that book so great.  Thank you for reminding me that I have that book and it's time to share with my 9yr old.   Roll Eyes

 Shocked Shocked Shocked

I am SO JEALOUS of all of you who have kept the books!  I don't know where mine went, but I'd give anything to see them again.  Enjoy them!

And thank you for the comments.  Smiley

Oh my god my friends and I checked those out from the library all the time! The one about the guy who flashed his brights at the car in front of him to stop the killer from slashing her throat still has me checking the backseat of my car!

Oh god. I knew exactly what this was from as soon as I saw the thumbnail. My classmate's dad would come to the school and read these to us so I was forced to hear them. Then I would come home from school and be scared to death at night. The pictures were pretty scary too. I haven't heard these since the days when they were being read to me, but I still remember some of them. Like the one where the man says "there's room for one more," and the one with the skeleton guy that walks down the street.
I am tempted to reread some of these but I have a feeling they will still scare the crap outta me  Embarrassed

Anyways, wonderful reproduction of the cover.
