I tend to buy a lot from knitpicks or webs (yarn.com).  Also I love all the hand dyed yarn on etsy.  Smiley

Besides knitpicks and WEBS, there's www.elann.com and www.littleknits.com.

For yarns that you might find in a good craft store, Knitting Warehouse and Yarn Supply.

i'm the first to support my LYS (actually i go into Phila b/c my LOCAL YS has little selection and a stiff owner...) but there is MUCH more variety online....sometimes if you know you won't need instructions and just want to try a new yarn, online is the way to go .... but as a newbie i have been surprised a few times by the weight/bulk of what arrived in the mail. so read the description carefully. that said, i just ordered cotton blend for a summer sweater from yarn.com and it is very nice
