Awesome idea! I have been looking for good ideas for decorative plant holders. I can't afford to buy a bunch of flower pots, but someone gave me twenty plastic totes full of fabric. This is a great thing to use it for, and will give my yard some much needed colour while I am waiting for the flowers to bloom!

I too thought the project was neat. I can totally picture it hanging from the lattice work on my front porch. Those judges were silly for giving you such a hard time!

Like the others commenting here, I think it's a great idea! I think it would be far more practical than an idea that I saw using pallets for herb gardening; and this would allow for a pallet to be used (like as a porch garden or something), but with less hassle and using less soil. It's a great idea, creative, and supportive of environmental care. This was definitely the place to share it, and get encouragement. Don't worry too much about a contest-- just create and enjoy your creations. . . and share them here! :-)

Yeah, what in the world? I don't know why the judges would say something like that. I think it's a wonderful idea! I've seen all sorts of DIY hanging planters, but most of them just don't look the way I want them to. These are nice and pretty! And yeah someone up above said the fabric might rot a bit, but fabric is the best for these types of projects because it can be washed (if it's separate from the foil bags) and treated easily. And if it does rot, typically it's not that expensive (especially if you use leftovers from old projects and thrift store finds like me  Grin) I think you did a great job!

You should re-use the plastic totes to make the waterproof linings, and put the fabric on the outside!  Grin Grin Grin
