This isn't knitting, but close enough...  I just watched the Bette Davis movie "The Letter," and crocheting/lace-making plays a rather major role in her characterization and in the film's imagery.  She plays a woman on trial for murder who makes lace to try and calm herself down...  needless to say, it doesn't work.  It's a great film, quite apart from the lace metaphors that abound.

I just wanted to let you all  know.  I made/designed my version of the Big Fish sweater.  It's not exactly identical (I made it shorter, and I think my yarn was the wrong weight, and I eliminated the bobbles, cause  I can't stand bobbles) but I LOVE it.

I'm going to submit the pattern to the Fall Knitty.  Wish me luck!

great, melidomi!  I can't wait to see it. good luck...

I feel like I've spotted knitting going on in a bunch of movies lately, but can only remember a couple of them.  I watched Woody Allen's "Radio Days" recently and Julie Kavner knits a lot in it (unidentified objects).  Judi Dench knits socks on DPNs in "Ladies in Lavender" - although I watched her closely and it's clear that she doesn't really know how to knit (I know, who am I - the knitting police??).  It's kind of an interesting film, though.

Do you have a pic?  I am blanking on what it looked like, although I remember at the time thinking that I liked it.  (while I was laughing hysterically that is).

if you can't be a good example then you'll just have to be a horrible warning.

<bump> Wink

I can't believe it's taken me so long to post this, but there's a jumper (that's what we call a sweater in Australia) that the character Dawn wears on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Season 6, Episode     , The Body. There's a good shot of it in the opening credits of Season 7. Anyway here are some links to some screen shots. I couldn't find a really clear image, this is the best I've been able to do so far.

It's such a gorgeous lace panel at the front and I love the little collar too. If anyone could post a better image that would be great. Otherwise I might have to design something similar myself one day.
Cheers all.  Smiley

that is great sweater! I think you could design something like that from the pics you have....I've seen that lace before, it reminds me of a fern pattern.
I don't much care for the collar-I would like to see it as a hoodie!
well, it's definately inspiring!

For the Harry Potter buffs out there, Hagrid is a knitter in the books! In the first book, he's knitting something huge and yellow, and he's counting stitches while talking to Harry at the train station I think.
