Hello Craftsters!

I'm thinking of making a simple online tool that would make sewing patterns. You would pick the type of clothing, input your measurements, and voila, a sewing pattern! You could tweak it and change things, but it will be very very simple (especiially at first).

So my question is, is this something that people would be interested in? I know there are some programs out there that do this, but if they're like everything else, they're too complicated or too expensive for most people to use, especially if you just want a shirt pattern or something.

So yeah, is this a need? And if so, what would you want it to be like?

Thanks!

Many people will love you and rejoice at your magnanimity! Especially if you allow the inputting of measurements for waist length, hip length, back length, etc, etc.

The guy at Pattern School provides a similar little tool for swimsuit blocks, under the "Lazy People Stuff."

So yeah, if it worked something like this?

(Apparently I am not allowed to post pictures yet, so you'll have to click through to see the picture).

PICTURE

You input your measurements, it connects the dots, and then you could print the pattern.

This pattern is based on this video.

I know absolutely nothing about patterns or sewing. It just seems like an interesting project that people might enjoy.

So I need your help. I need step-by-step instructions of what measurements are needed for particular patterns and how to plot those and I can add them to the tool.

A working version might be available soon.

The measurements used by BurdaStyle may be a good starting point for you:

Here's a first prototype I would love for people to play with:

It's based on the Burda Basic Bodice Block and the Burda Simple Bra Pattern.

Tell me what you think!

Huh, I guess I don't have Java installed since my last Windows re-install. I don't play online games anymore, so I hadn't even realized til just now!

I'll deal with that sometime this week and take your app for a test run Cheesy

It's a REALLY awesome idea (that I've wanted to do myself...once I learn how to make my own sewing patterns). I like the program, however changes the sizes is frustrating, and only seems to get larger and at tiny increments (I couldn't seem to get the bust under 100 even)

Sounds like a great idea but I couldn't get it to work and I did have javascript enabled  Sad
