My boyfriend has been doing some massive cleaning and purging recently, and today decided to discard three reels (approximately 4.5 miles) of two inch audio tape that's no longer any good for recording, but being the good little packrats that we are, neither of us can quite bear to throw out that much tape... the idea being, there must be something crafty that can be done with it...  short of wallpapering the walls with it, I'm having trouble finding ideas for it.

As you can see, one side is shiny and the other side is matte, and it's a fair bit more durable than what you'd find in your average household cassette tape.

Any thoughts?

My first thought was crochet with it, but it seems a bit wide for that... You coul weave placemats from them? You could get some nice subtle designs out of that, with the mat sides and the shiny sides.

Save them for Halloween! I used old vhs-tapes, hung them in doorways and from the ceiling, sprayed a little water on them, turned out the lights and got shrilly screams from guests as they entered   Roll Eyes
Weave them into bags, placemats (as mentioned) and coasters, runners.....

What about something like a gum wrapper purse?  Only without the gum wrappers?  Wink

I'd weave it, like others said. You have so much though, I'd do something BIG.  Not sure on the texture, but you could do a big floor mat, or a wall hanging.  If you search artist basketmakers, you might get some cool ideas too.

Weave a covering for an entire wall alternating the shiny and matt sides. Would be great in a media room.

Oh, I think all this tape screams to be transformed into a huge bouquet Grin Or maybe you could turn it into a giant superlong high fashion wig with lots of curls and straight strands?

You could make flowers with it by using one of those spikey flower maker things (flower loom?).][http://www.amazon.com/Knifty-Knitter-Inch-Flower-Loom/dp/B001685KAA]

You could also weave placemats by alternating the shiny and matte sides...like shiny going up/down and matte going left/right.  You could, say, spray glue it on an ugly placemat or onto cardboard or something to give it some substance.
