Here's my entry.  Upon reading the criteria for this challenge, I immediately thought of Undercover, the label by my man Jun Takahashi.  Specifically, I thought of the amazing jeans he did in his first collection in Paris.

So I went to the Goodwill in search of materials, and was looking around picking out a couple things when the kid working there told me that on Sundays, everything with a certain color tag is only ONE DOLLAR.  Perfect, I thought, and I came back on Sunday and bought this stuff:

Three ankle-length skirts of various shades of grey, a houndstooth tweedy jacket, an uuuuugly pair of black jeans, and a flannel shirt.  The jacket and two of the skirts were lined, which gave me even more material to work with.  All this, plus I got the first Whitney Houston album, grand total $7.05.

I cut the each of the skirts down one seam to give me three basically flat pieces of cloth, and worked freehand, which I never do, to make this hoodie.  The hood was made from the stretchy waistband of the lightest-grey skirt.  (I don't know what's going on with my hair today.)

I had to alter the jeans, which were much to big for me.  This was extremely annoying, but they fit okay now.  Then I covered them over with as many little patches as I could hand-sew on in the time allotted!

I used the breast pockets from the shirt and the jacket as the back pockets, since I had to cut off the original pockets while resizing the jeans.

So that's my entry!  Hope you like it.

Fabulous  tribute to Jun Takahashi and IMHO the style and flair seems to work wonderfully for you.   Your man Jun was a new designer to me, so looked up his work and enjoyed a visit to his winter 2005 collection.  Thanks for expanding my horizions.

ooo  I love those pants.  I remember when I was younger I always wanted patchwork pants after seeing an episode of 'my so called life' where rae-ann had a pair.  And she was cool.  So I started making some, by hand, i think i sewd together like 5 squares befor forgetting about it.  It was a very short lived fantasy.

I love them so much tho, they are the perfect colors and shapes and patterns!  Its like subtle yet loud at the same time. rule!

I'm with GloriousHats and craftykate.  As a devout fan of anything Japanese, I was shocked that I hadn't heard of him.  But as soon as I saw those pants, I immediately looked him up, and I think I'm in love!

Oh and by the way...

YOU F***ING ROCK!  I mean, you get top points for creative use of materials alone, not to mention the fact that you made something that you look AWESOME in.  Phat!

HOT!  I am not a fan of patchwork usually - too hippyish for me - but your pants look really stylish with the blazer-hoodie now!

Thanks to all, and those who voted for me.

I definitely was trying to stay as far from hippieness as I could with the pants, erring towards the punk side as much as possible.  A narrow color palette is what does it, I thiink.  They are a bit "louder" in person because of all the long threads I left hanging (on purpose) shaking around.

It's nice to hear you guys say I look okay in this stuff.  I wasn't sure when I saw the pictures.  I may wear these pants out yet.  We'll see.

WEAR THEM OUT!  If you feel self-conscious, I would wear a black tee or some other simple top first.  And a scary face so people are like "oh my god, he's so confident in those pants...i'm probably too narrow-minded to appreciate them but i'll try."
