This is an embroidered Idolomantis Diabolica, or the Devil's Flower Mantis. Isn't that name just bomb in & of itself? lol

I crafted this for the wonderful Sewphie in the Anything Goes Needlework Swap. She mentioned liking bugs & jars, so I wanted to try to give it a look of being inside of a bell jar, only as a needlebook. The embroidery is done on felt with complimentary colored pages inside & is my first time making a needlebook.

After I finished him, I decided to leave him without an outline because I think it softens him, like he's behind glass, & it also takes of the diabolical edge & lets him be just a touch cute. I was rather sad to see him go, I think he's pretty adorable. But he has an awesome new home now. Smiley

Closeup of the mantis, I wasn't able to get all the red transfer paper out, but I'm sure it will rub off over time. I think it also adds a neat red glow when viewed from a distance.

Inside of the needlebook.

Hope you enjoy! C&C always welcome!

This is so neat! I love the design and the execution. I love needlebooks that are a bit unexpected like this. This rocks for sure!

I have many crochet and plastic canvas booklets/leaflets from the 70's, 80's, and 90's that I am interested in trading for a variety of items. PM me if you would like a list of what I have.
