Okay, we are on again.

I LOVED doing this swap the first time around, and have decided to reinvigorate it And the fact that I am usually a non-journaller and a non-paperworker, and I'm dying for a round 2 on this swap should tell you something about how much fun it is.

I am blatantly stealing most of the words below, and probably the swap idea itself from Dizzerspinninround.

Details of swap:


In this swap you will be writing in a journal for one month and sending the journal to your partner. You will be journalling the month of May, natch.

You are encouraged to make your own journal, but it is definitely not necessary, you can recreate a pre-existing journal if you so desire.

This journal should really express who you are, and not just in words, feel free to include photos, ticket stubs, crafty projects, drawings, poetry, short stories, jokes, whatever!

You MUST write something for each day, even if it's just a few sentences. Your entries don't have to be novel length, but they do need to be of substance. You can even include drawings and poetry (make it a mini zine about you if you want!).

You and your partner will discuss how personal you wish to be, if you didn't already specify in the questionnaire.

You are ALSO required to send a small crafted item along with the journal. Make it a craft you are super good at, to display your skills, or try your hand at a new craft, so long as you make sure you keep it a small (unless you and your partner discuss otherwise). A small is an item that takes you 2 hours or less to craft. Items such as earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks are considered smalls for different people of different skill levels.

I'm in Australia - I'll be in a different timezone to most of the rest of you. A reply to a question might seem to take longer than you might expect - especially if you send a PM while I'm asleep or working. I did the first round and it was fun. But I hate writing about myself....can't I write about someone more interesting? Like George Clooney?

Aw, that's my book picture up there!   I had such a great time doing the journal for the last round, and it was over-the-top awesome getting KW's journal after the month was over and going through all the nooks and crannies of a month in the life. Such a great swapping experience.  

Organizing the swap, on the other hand, was extremely challenging! I'd be glad to talk with you about via PM, and dizzerspinninround probably would too; we pretty much agreed to put the whole traumatic experience behind us and never speak of it again,   but as you're stepping up to the plate to organize a new round, I would make an exception.

I will have to strongly consider participating in this round, since I was attempting to not do any swapping for a while. But I already have some great handbound books that need to be put to use, so...I will lurk for a bit.  

We didn't have Pinterest around during the first round, so there's endless inspiration material to sift through when you search for "art journal" boards. There's also been the mass production of things called Smash Books, available in the U.S. (not sure about elsewhere) at some art and craft stores. It's like a head-start on a messy, visually interesting art journal, with the basic book and a bunch of accessories you buy separately to customize. Less photo-oriented, formulaic and tidy than scrapbooking, but it's marketed to scrapbookers. If you've never done a visual journal before and don't know where to begin, it can be a helpful place to start. If you have done anything with visual journals, altered art, bookbinding, upcycling, etc., your reaction will likely be, "But why spend all that money and have the same supplies as everyone else when I could just ________ instead?"   I'm glad a crafty person was able to turn this idea into a money-making venture, though I would encourage people who go the SmashBook route to use it as a springboard for other ideas and not be limited by the supplies/accessories available in their display at the craft store. The video for the product is nice, quick inspiration relevant to this swap, whether or not you use their particular products.

ETA: LOL, a George Clooney journal would be fantastic.   Would it be written from his perspective, or kind of a pseudo-stalker, all-about-what-George-Clooney-did-this-month style? I guess people could even do a month-long journal for a fictional character, if both partners agreed to that. It really was wonderful getting to read all about KW's life, though, and I'd bet yours would be interesting, too. Agh, the more I write here, the more I want to participate...But I'm committed to waiting it out a little while.

I'm tempted, but the price of postage just keeps going up - it's almost to the point where domestic mail is too expensive. But I think I might be able to handle $6 for an Australian partner. Will have to think on it a little longer.

Smmartt - other people's lives are always interesting. Part of the thing I enjoyed about this swap was trying to work out what to write on the days when my life was boring.

I was just kidding, although I know way too much about the man! (He's exactly 3 weeks older than me!) (He's hosting a dinner for the president!) (He's gotta dump that girlfriend, like yesterday!)

I will consider joining - it's my birthday month (and George's) and I'll be off from work for 8 days so maybe....And I agree about the Smashbook route - great for beginners, but I love when people use real ephemera in their journals. Makes it so much more authentic. It's fun to look at all the goodies that are offered. I'm hoping to take a stab-binding class this month or next so I would be making the journal myself.
