Old Book in Den Drawer

I bought this book at a Friends of the Library book sale a few months back. Threw it in the den drawer thinking I would use it to make heart shaped confetti for Valentine's Day or such.



I took off the dust jacket. (Which was super, super glued onto the book.)



Cut the pages free from the cover.





Then I started to fold the pages.







It got harder the further into the book I got. I ended up cutting it in half at the 202 page mark...



Then I duct taped the book and made two side panels from duct tape.



And made a clutch purse from the cover.



I ended up with two book 'trees' and a cool little purse.

I decorated the trees for the 4th of July... Maybe I'll change up the ribbon to coordinate with each passing holiday. 



I saw the book trees in a craft magazine and I love working with duct tape (I usually make flowers). It was really fun to join in on the challenge!

Ohhhhh very crafty. I love both ideas you went with and want to attempt both. I could go crazy with that clutch idea. All the possibilities.

That clutch is super-sweet!  I have a number of books bought specifically to craft with and a few birthdays coming up to craft for...no prizes for guessing what people will be getting this year!

Wow, I'd never think of using a book to make a clutch! I've made two 'book safes' from similar library sale purchases, but this is great. What did you use to close it?

I haven't created a clasp closure for it yet. I am debating about using elastic and a button, (which would include drilling holes in the cover) or using more duct tape and a snap. Right now my daughters are using it to 'hide' things in.

This is love at first sight... and second as well...

Being a volunteer librarian, I have tons of old decaying books and cannot bring myself to get rid of them.

Always on the lookout for something to do with them.

Problem is, it's really tough for me to dismember them.
