sand is tiny bits of weathered and eroded rock - does it count for the challenge?

cardboard is made of paper fibres - does it count for the challenge?

If so I have an idea that I've been waiting all winter to do with a class I volunteer in, and I always do a model first, so could get 2 tasks done at the same time

Great questions!  Yep!  Those sound totally great.  Sand, chalk, etc. are perfect supplies for this challenge.  Cardboard is just heavy duty paper, so absolutely fine, too.

Dear me, I very much want to make something for this challenge.

Any objections to techniques for molding/shaping/changing the materials, in other words do they need to be identifiable in the final project?
Because I do stuff to stuff, currently considering doing some copper plating over paper for color and some rigidity, I've got a couple other electrochemical and thermochemical processes up my sleeve for modification of materials.
