Craft Challenge #74 - Rock, Paper, Scissors! - Entries Due May 1 - 8

Winner Announced!

Our winning entry was created by Summer6061! Her entry titled, Literal Rock, Paper, Scissors Necklace,
is just as the title describes a very literal creation involving rock, paper and scissors.

Check out her full project thread here!

05/09/12 - It's time to vote!

Scroll up to see the voting poll.  You must be logged in to vote.
Voting will happen from May 9 - May 16 2012.
If cheating of any sort is detected, the applicable entry and votes will be disqualified.

05/01/12 - It's Time to Enter!

The entry period is May 1 - 8, 2012.  Entries must be posted by May 8 11:59:59 PDT 2012.

To post your entry, please start a new topic by clicking NEW TOPIC on this board! Smiley

If you are a new member, and cannot post images yet, please just post a direct link to your image(s) in your post.  A friendly neighborhood Moderator will come along and update your post to embed the image(s) for you.

This month, we've partnered with our friends at Elmer's to bring you Rock, Paper, Scissors!  Your challenge this month is to utilize three simple things:  rock, paper, scissors.  Rock and paper must be part of your completed project.  Scissors can be used as a tool in making your project and/or even used in your completed project.

You might be thinking, "Rocks??"  Yes, rocks, as in geology (not music Cheesy)!  Your completed project must have some form of rock in it.  If you're stumped for what is considered a rock, no worries!  Here's a nifty list provided by Wiki.  If you are aware of a rock not on this list, feel free to use it.  Use your best judgment.  This is just an easy reference. Smiley

Think outside the box!  You are not limited to using rock in its original form.  Crush it, smooth it, carve it, etc.!  Maybe your entry will be a wire-wrapped rock accented with gorgeous handmade paper beads.  Maybe your entry will be a handmade scrapbook adorned with beautiful rocks you've collected over the years.  Maybe your entry will be some sort of intricate paper carving complete with chalk illustrations.

Have fun!

Rules:

  • Craft your project during this challenge period (Apr 2 2012 - May 8 2012) only.  Projects created before this timeframe will be excluded from the voting poll.
  • On May 1 2012 there will be a special folder created for entries.  Post your entry on the specified entry board during the period of May 1 to May 8 11:59:59 PDT 2012.  No sooner.  No later.
  • Voting will happen from May 9 - May 16 2012.
  • Enter only ONE project.  Your entry can have multiple components to it.
  • If cheating of any sort is detected, the applicable entry and votes will be disqualified.

Originality:

It's probably impossible to know whether your project is 100% original, has never been posted on Craftster, or made by anyone else in the past.  But if your project was definitely inspired by something you've seen before, please give credit to that project. Smiley

About Elmer's:
For more than sixty years, Elmers Products, Inc., has been providing creative adhesive solutions that support project success and turn ideas into reality. By continuing to develop innovative new products, Elmers has become the trusted brand when it comes to fueling creativity and providing outstanding product performance in the classroom, at home, in the workshop and at the craft table. Prizes:

At the end, I'll set up a poll right here and the first place winner (US or non-US) will get:

(1) a super craft supply pack from Elmer's (valued at $50!)
(2) their project in the Featured Projects area
(3) their project in the Craftster Blog
(4) and a prize from us at Craftster.org -- any one item from one of Craftster's online shops!

Sounds like a fun challenge. Could the rock be one you've made, like out of paper mache'?

sand is tiny bits of weathered and eroded rock - does it count for the challenge?

cardboard is made of paper fibres - does it count for the challenge?

If so I have an idea that I've been waiting all winter to do with a class I volunteer in, and I always do a model first, so could get 2 tasks done at the same time

Looking for Mccalls 6337 sewing pattern, if you have a copy you'd be willing to share/give/sell please let me know.  The bag costs $60 and I think perhaps I could make it cheaper/

Great questions!  Yep!  Those sound totally great.  Sand, chalk, etc. are perfect supplies for this challenge.  Cardboard is just heavy duty paper, so absolutely fine, too.

Dear me, I very much want to make something for this challenge.

Any objections to techniques for molding/shaping/changing the materials, in other words do they need to be identifiable in the final project?
Because I do stuff to stuff, currently considering doing some copper plating over paper for color and some rigidity, I've got a couple other electrochemical and thermochemical processes up my sleeve for modification of materials.

I am new on here and this is my first reply. I wanted to try this challenge but while reading the rules of the site, I noticed that I have to post 10 times before I can post a picture. Does this mean that I will not be able to enter the challenge until I have posted my 10 times?

If you include links to the pictures (as in direct links that end in a jpg or other picture format) then a global mod or admin can edit your post so the pictures show.  Smiley No need to hit 10 first.
