My daughter is 14 and like me and her Dad she is a huge Firefly fan and loves Kaylee. When we found out that Jewel Staite was coming to Adelaide for the inaugural OzComicCon I suggested the Shindig dress as a costume, thinking that she would say no because she doesn't like pink or ruffles. She said yes. Then I had to make it. I am not very experienced at the whole costume/clothes thing but decided to give it a go. The skirt and hoop skirt without a pattern or a ruffle foot. The top was partly based on an 80s pattern which had to be modified. I managed to get the top done in one night.

Arrival at the Con.

Spinning after the Con. (Hoop skirt taken out.)

She loved the dress. Lots of people took her picture. She won third prize in the Cosplay Parade, even though there were only two prizes - the judges asked for a third prize for her. And Jewel complemented her costume and pointed it out at her panel.

A great Con and the costume was worth all of the effort when I saw her face. Grin

Amazing ruffles, very nice homage to Firefly/Serenity. I, too, am a fan!
