Finally got all my white t-shirt yarn dyed for an upcoming craft fair. Our dining room table looks like a mad scientist's laboratory! A combination of hand dyed and dip dyed in procion mx dyes.

How do you make t-shirt yarn? Small strips of jersey/cotton fabric/tshirt?

How pretty and fun. I never even thought of dying white t-shirt yarn to get the colors you want. Silly me.

Your yarns are beautiful!  I didn't know that you could turn T-shirts into yarn.  Sounds like fun.  I'm allergic to wool, so I'm always looking for alternatives.

So beautiful!!  The combination of colors is amazing.  It would be so fun to make a locker-hooked rug with that t-shirt yarn.

Is each skein the equivalent of one t-shirt?

I am a fiber junkie, and I just learned how to make t-shirt yarn about a month ago, and became COMPLETELY addicted to it. A few weeks later I got an opportunity for a small craft fair (my first one!) and I went to the thrift store, spent $20 on a bag full of white t-shirts, and spent HOURS cutting them up! I used LetBirdsFly's tutorial to learn: (http://letbirdzfly.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-make-t-shirt-yarn.html) Now I just have to try to stop knitting with it so I actually have some to sell. Each skein is only about 35 yards, and I usually only take the 2x shirts and up. I use the leftover t-shirt upper half as lining in the bags I knit out of the yarn.

This is awesome! The boyfriend and I tie-dye for festivals a lot, any shirts that don't sell or don't come out how we like get turned into yarn. I never thought of just making some yarn and dying it though! I love how soft this stuff is (:
