I found this ^^^ ah-mazing crochet artist out of Japan that does super intricate, super weird, super detailed amigurumi. HOW DOES HE DO IT?Huh This stuff is WAY advanced, and is exactly what I want to do... not the weird part, but the super detailed part. Help!? This is not just cones, spheres, ect.... this is mind blowing to figure out how to crochet something this complex!

Wow! And here I thought that I was fairly decent at shaping...

Was there anything in particular that you wanted to try and figure out how to do? For instance, if you wanted to make a crazy structure like http://www.flickr.com/photos/m19680621/6207288766/in/photostream , all it seems to be is a series of interconnected tubes stuffed with wire to give them shape. So for starters, just try making a long tube that's 12 sc around and put a bunch of pipe cleaners in it and bend it into random shapes.

If you're looking at trying to make something like http://www.flickr.com/photos/m19680621/4804302863/ , well, that's a little more involved. Lets say he started at the bottom of the foot. It increases in size at the base, and then decreases toward the ankle, then increases again at the back of the calf, and then decreases behind the knee, etc. You would have to experiment a little with where you would put the increases and decrease, when you would put them, and how many you would use per row, but you could eventually get something like this. Just remember that if you only put increases or decreases on one side of what you're working on, only that side will bulge out or come in, rather than if you spread the increases and decreases evenly around the row.

I hope that might have helped. Did you have any other questions?

Thanks so much for the help. I figured as much, but it just seems too good lol. One day I hope to do something as detailed... I have tons of ideas, but I am not there yet... i.e crocheting with tiny thread and tiny hooks.

Wow! Did you see that Makoto says she started crocheting dolls in 2006? And the amazing stuff she started making only a year later. Oh, I feel so humbled this morning.

Her tubework and toes are out of this world!

that's seriously how I feel everytime I look at her work. I'm still trying to get myself to try out one of her patterns. Specifically one of her dragons.
