Prince Charming!

Hello! (kind of a long post, i'm sorry. I tried to break it up with pictures so it's more interesting!)
So this year for Halloween (yes I know it's SUPER early) I decided to be Cinderella. I love sewing and I think costumes look so much better and are so much more satisfying when you make them yourself (which is why i've already started). My Cinderella dress is coming along fine but it's the prince charming i'm curious about.

My wonderful boyfriend has agreed to be yet another prince charming this year (we were Tiana and Naveen last year, picture:

)

So now i'm making him a prince charming costume. I'm trying to make it pretty close to the movie. I've found a lot of pictures of him wearing a red sash, or other peoples costumes where he has these gold curly things on his chest. In the film he only has a gold rope thing hanging around his chest from shoulder to shoulder, and these ridiculous fringed shoulder pad things.


My question, is how do I make these shoulder pads? My plan was to go to joanns and buy a shoulder pad, create a kind of case for it in the color of his jacket and attach gold fringe. But when i took a closer look, it just seemed like a kind of stick with a circle, rather than a real shoulder pad. I know it's only a costume so it doesn't have to be exact, and buying a shoulder pad will work fine, but i found a picture of this couple who were able to do it and it looks fantastic.


Any suggestions or comments would help and are very appreciated. If you actually read all that nonsense, thank you! haha

Well, it's called an epaulette, and is a common feature in military uniforms.  Check these out: http://en.empirecostume.com/images/boutique/L/1413.jpg  I bet you could make them by quilting, or using plastic canvas, batting, and fabric.  And don't forget the fringe!

Ohhh my god! Thank you SOOO much Aislynn!! I kept googling "prince charming shoulder pads" and things like that trying to find out what they're called! (Now I feel silly for calling them shoulder pads. I've seen them on a lot of military uniforms before too) Thank you so much! Now I actually have something to research! thank youuuu!!

for the yarny parts i would suggest going to a fabrick store or a store with curtins, they have rope that reminds me of what he wears . Either that or use some golden yarn and some stiffener

anyway this has all kinds of awesome written all over it .
