Cupcake Potholders I designed for a friend of mine a while back. I have updated the pictures, and the pattern is below:

Yarn:100% cotton Lily Sugar'n Cream Yarn in White 00001, Hot Blue 01742, Hot Pink 01740, and Scented ( I didn't have an ideal unscented purple available in my store) Lavender 24311. Since these yarns are 100% cotton, they are safe for actual use as potholders or hotpads and will not melt.

Gauge: G/6 4.25mm hook

I will separate this pattern into the different parts of the cupcake, at the end everything will be sewn together. The cupcake is worked from the bottom up, pay special attention to the order of the rows, since there is front and back post stitches as well as bobble stitches, it is important to stay on the correct side of your work or it will not look right.

Bottom of Cupcake: Start in pink
Foundation Chain: ch 21
Row 1: skip first 2 ch sp, dc in each remaining ch sp across, ch 2, turn
Row 2: dc in next 3 sp (do not skip first dc sp) *fpdc, dc in next 3 sp*, repeat * 4x across, dc in turn ch, ch 2, turn
Row 3: dc in next 4 sp (do not skip first dc sp) *bpdc, dc in next 3 sp*, repeat * 4x across, dc in turn ch, ch 2, turn
Row 4: dc in next 4 sp (do not skip first dc sp) *fpdc, dc in next 3 sp*, repeat * 4x across, dc in turn ch, ch 2,  turn
Row 5: dc in next 5 sp (do not skip first dc sp) *bpdc, dc in next 3 sp*, repeat * 4x across, dc in turn ch, ch 2, turn
Row 6: dc in next 5 sp (do not skip first dc sp) *fpdc, dc in next 3 sp*, repeat * 4x across, dc in turn ch, ch 2, turn
Row 7: dc in next 6 sp (do not skip first dc sp)* bpdc, dc in next 3 sp*, repeat * 4x across, dc in turn ch, ch 2, turn

Top of Cupcake: Switch to White, do not tie off, continue from bottom

Row 8: ch 1, sc across (this should be on the front of your work, where your post stitches are popping out), sc in turn ch, ch 2, turn
Row 9: *Bobble (do not skip first sc space in this row or any of the following rows of Bobbles), ch 1, skip next sc sp* repeat across, Bobble in last sc sp (14 Bobbles total), ch 1, turn
Row 10: skip first 2 sp, sc across (24 sc), ch 2, turn
Row11:*Bobble, ch 1, skip next sc sp* repeat * across (12 Bobbles total)
Row 12: Same as Row 10 (20 sc)
Row 13: Same as Row 11 (10 Bobbles total)
Row 14: Same as Row 10 (16 sc)
Row 15: Same as Row 11 (8 Bobbles total)

Tie off. For sprinkles on the cupcake, just randomly pull different colors of yarn through and tie off in the back. This can be done however and in whatever order you like.

Bow: Start in Blue
Foundation Chain:ch 17
Rows 1-3: dc across ending with dc in turn ch, ch 2, turn
Finishing: sc around all four sides and tie off
Middle of Bow: Start in Purple
Foundation Chain:ch 20
Row 1: skip first 2 ch spaces and dc across, tie off.
Weave in Edges, shape bow and wrap the middle part around. Secure with pins and sew together.

Hanging Loop: Start in Pink
Foundation Chain: ch 20
Row 1: skip first 2 ch spaces and dc across, tie off and weave in edges.

Back of Cupcake:Start in Purple
Foundation Chain: ch 20
Row 1: sc in each stitch across (20 sc)
Rows 2-12: inc, sc in each of the remaining sc spaces across (resulting in one more stitch added each row)
Switch to White here if desired or stay with Purple
Row 13: sc across
Rows 14-26: dec, sc in each of the remaining sc spaces across (resulting in one less stitch in each row)

Once you have all your pieces made, gather everything up, you will also need pins, sewing needles, and thread.
Sew the bow together as instructed earlier. After that you are going to want to sew the bow to the front of the cupcake, you can do it slanted like I did, or however you want. The next thing you want to do it fold the hanging loop in half, place it on the back side of the front of the cupcake, behind the bow. Sew it there. After that, match up the back of the cupcake to the front and pin it in place, then sew it together. Now you are all done!

I would suggest hand washing and/or spot cleaning these potholders, they might not stand up to machine washing. Or just hang them up in your kitchen for display!
