I made this for my friend who is having her first baby.  She has been trying for about two years and there is always some sort of problem... until now!  Her doctors think they have figured out all the problems and everyone is hopeful this one will be carried to term.  She has been so strong through the whole thing and is an inspiration.  She has been through terrible heartache and still kept trying and also talking frankly to help other ladies dealing with similar circumstances with grace and charm.  An inspiration!

I wanted to make her quilt modern and in her nature theme.  I used Judy Hopkins "One of a Kind Quilt" book to map out the pattern and design after I picked up the fabric in a bundle at a sort of sale for medical reasons for a guild member.  The colors are much brighter in person.  If anyone knows the maker/line name for the fabric I would love to know!

Once I went through a few design options I really got the hang of using the book.  It was an excellent resource!

Thanks for looking!  C/C welcome!

Very pretty!  My best wishes for your friend.

I love that you placed the birds so that they seem to be looking up at the same thing. I'll have to look for this book!

Inspiration without application is moot.

It is just beautiful. I can really feel a message of hope and future in the layout of the birds over grass in this quilt.

Best of luck to your friends.

Thank you so much!  I got the book on Amazon for about $2.00.  It is a little old fashion but the concepts translate and also helps with the logistics in making your own borders and lots more.

Thank you, I worked so hard on the design... drawing and redrawing.  You can see some of the drafts on the graph paper in the last photo.  I wanted to make it uplifting and colorful.  Thanks again!  This board really motivates me!

What a sweet design, completely unique, and with your modern design and contemporary fabric crafted in traditional style elements, it's also pretty timeless.  I have no doubt your friends will be thrilled, and their baby will be using it long after leaving the crib.

PS - Will be stopping at my public library later today to pick up whichever of the five or six Judy Hopkins books listed in the online catalog are still on the shelf....
