Cowboy Soap :)

I made a cowboy-inspired batch!


55 oz olive oil
30 oz coconut oil
30 oz palm oil
16.2 oz lye
30 oz water
5 oz beer syrup (12 oz beer boiled until it reduced by about two thirds)

From Brambleberry:
Beau Brummel FO
Bay Rum FO
Leather FO
Activated Charcoal

I usually add the beer to the lye, but this time I added it at trace with the FO's.  It retained a little bit of beer scent and didn't give the soap that ammonia smell that beer sometimes adds.  I colored half the batch with charcoal and the beer and FO's should discolor the other side to a darker shade than it is now.  Here's the top when I poured it:



It's smelling a little too manly right now haha..  the leather really smells like leather but the spiciness of the bay rum is cutting it a little bit at least.

i've had nothing but failure with beer in soap - but it was always CP. Maybe HP will work better - and I think I'm going to try the "beer syrup". Is it the beer that looks blue or is that from the charcoal? Or am I just color blind?

That's the charcoal and bad lighting haha!  It's a nice dark grey in real life..  The beer is what turned the other part kind of a light tan color.  I thought this system worked a lot better..  I just boiled the beer the night before until it was around 4 ounces and refrigerated it overnight.  The next day I water discounted by the 4 oz that I'd add later and then just added it at trace with the FO's..  I think I'm going to do it like that every time now, it worked perfectly and it feels like more of the beer's properties made it through the lye!

It looks great! I love the combo of scents (although not sure what the beau brummel is). I actually had an FO at one time called "Cowboy" that smelled like grass...pastures I guess?? This sounds much better Love your swirls too.

The OhhappyDay tutorial here is great!  The hardest part for me was finding a recipe that worked..  These days, I'm doing about 50% olive oil, and 25% each of palm and coconut oil.  That's still kind of high for palm and coconut, one of these days I may add in some castor oil or something..
