so my kid's school do a bonnet parade each year, and more than a chance for kids to show off their craft prowess (like it should be) it seems to be another chance for parents to try and one-up each other. who am I to go against the status quo?! I know this introduction seems cynical, but it's true. Oh well.
last year my kid was ill for a week before the parade, and I didn't find out until the day before... she helped decorate the bonnet and still didn't win anything (she was trumped by a kid in a massive papier mache Lindt Bunny). nobody cared that it was made according to an 18th century milkmaid's bonnet pattern either humpf... This year I knew about it well in advance, then forgot. It's tomorrow afternoon. I remembered this morning and had to dig out the child's design.
2 hours after remembering, we had this
(designed by child, but made by me)
We probably wont win, because we (I) havn't spent 3 weeks covering balloons with papier mache and faux gold leaf. but at least we'll have taken part. and soph's impressed even if nobody else is!!
Made from yellow funfur, felt, an offcut of sophie's favorite polyester lining fabric (used last year for her party dress), the last piece of an old hawaiian shirt and some ribbon.
