My husband is a woodworker, and is currently making a piece of furniture for our upstairs. I had him cut several 4" by 4" squares for me while he's out in the shop, just so I could have a surface for quick little projects. Here's my first one, a little circus collage.

I sanded all the wood down (I couldn't sweet talk him into doing that for me), and mixed up some yellow paint to match the colors on the elephant image. I inked all the edges, and then layered the black polkadot paper, some little tickets, and the elephant and ringmaster images. I outlined all the images with a Sharpie to make them stand out a bit more, and then gave the whole shebang several coats of Mod Podge for protection. Once that was dry, I added a few sequined stars.

The board is an inch thick, so it stands by itself.

I love working on this small, sturdy surface. I plan to do some more collages soon.

Ah! Good idea with the sharpie outline. I have to remember that. I think that's a great size area to work with. I need to have my hubby cut me some squares.
