I made this for my partner in the Anything Goes Needlework Swap because she loves sparrows. It was my first attempt at stumpwork and I like how it turned out. I don't have a photo of it after ironing and mounted in the flexiframe I finished it in but this photo does show the finished stitching, I left the background plain because I wanted it to look like branches against the sky- not sure whether that worked or not.
There is a close up on my blog if anyone is interested.

Gorgeous. I think it was smart to leave the background simple because it highlights the incredible work on the bird. It's so life-like!

How is this piece of awesomeness your first stump work attempt? I'm terrified to even try it!
Amazing.

Amazing!  Very lovely and sparrowlike.  I've been learning stumpwork using the Jane Nicolas books, but have only worked on butterflies and dragonfies with metal frameworks.  Makes me want to do something bigger.  Thank you for sharing.
