You're just as sane as I am.

I was recently in the OTT Hunger Games Swap and I thought I'd share what I made for my partner. I'd read in her profile that she was wanting to fill her bedroom wall up with button tree hoopla and so I gave it a go.
Here is what I came up with:

Here's another for close up:

I didn't do a traditional embroidery, but opted instead to use lots of little odds and ends. I used two different fabrics for the base of the hoopla to make it seem more like the ground and the night sky. I also used other fabric from my stash and twisted it all up to form the skeleton of the tree before whip stitching it into place. Then I stitched in all of the tiny twigs and branches before adding the different buttons, with a huge one on the base of the tree to give it a bole-ish look. I used a petal from a gold/silver Christmas poinsetta for the moon and goodies from my scrapbooking stuff to fill the night with stars. I had to learn to tie a noose (creepy, I know) and placed two next to eachother as fitting for the poem and added some lines from the poem in glow in the dark thread.
I loved working on this and have decided I must make another for myself.  Wink
Thanks for taking a look!

I haven't read/seen the HG yet but I love this. The tree is fantastic and I adore buttons and moons so I'm all over this. So awesome!

Great eye caching job. The 3 dimensional aspect is very interesting and complemented by the nice choice of colors.

I've not seen the movie or read the books, but I LOVE this hoopla!!  The details of everything is just amazing.  Totally pinning this.  I think I will try a mixed media type of project soon myself, thanks for putting the bug in my ear Smiley
