Baked goods, first craft sale. what do i need to know? permits ect..

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I make baked goods and hand crafted items. And is 120.00 for a table with coverings included, a reasonable price for a show that is one day but can see up to 700 people? looked through previous posts so if there are answers out there please push me in the right direction. facebook @ http://www.facebook.com/Hulakelugifts

For only 700 people, I would say that was too much. I would say no more than 50.

For your baked goods, you need to check with your state, they are all different. Some of them require you bake in a certified kitchen, some don't.

$120 for a space with an anticipated 700 customers? That's far too much money! I agree, $50 max.

Only 7 states allow you to sell baked goods from a "Home based kitchen". Are you in one of those states? Otherwise, you will need to have a certified kitchen AND LOTS OF INSURANCE!!! If a food inspector shows up and you're not certified, you could face some heavy fines.

Do you have a food handlers license? If not at least get one. they're easy to obtain and the course is quick and inexpensive. You can take it online in about 1/2 hour and get your cert. At least do that.

It depends on the food handling rules in your state.  You need to do some research on that.  My market booth partner bakes and sells from an uninspected kitchen which is allowed as long as you have certain information on the label, including ingredients, contact information, 'not for resale', 'prepared in an uninspected kitchen' and weight.  Other states don't allow sales from uninspected kitchens, period.  Good luck!
