Hey Craftsters!

We're totally stoked to be able to announce a MUCH and LONG requested site improvement. You can now organize your bookmarks!! Instead of sifting through all of your threads in a single list looking for whatever you need, you can now organize your bookmarks into convenient folders, to keep your inspiration separate from interesting questions, and tutorials separate from what you just think is totally cute!

If you go to your bookmarks, you'll now see a new section above your list of bookmarks, called Bookmark Folders.

You can use folder to easily organize your bookmarks however you see fit! Adding a new Bookmark Folders is easy, just click this link in the Bookmark Folders area.

When you click that link a dialogue box will appear. You can type in the name of your new folder, and hit Add.

Now your folder will show up at the top of your Bookmarks page in the Bookmark Folders area.

Adding your bookmarks to folders is easy, too! Simply click this icon next to the bookmark you want to file.

Again, a dialogue will pop up asking you to select the folder in which you'd like the bookmark to appear.

After you click add, you can see that the thread has now been added to your folder! The Bookmark Folders area will only display the last topic added, but you can just click on the folder title to access ALL of the bookmarks within it. You can also still see ALL of your bookmarks as one single list right below the folders area. They will not be removed from this list when they're put into folders.

Here you can see that I've added some new folders and added topics to some, but not all.

If you want a specific thread in two different folders, you can do that! Just go through the process again and select the other folder in which you'd like the thread to appear. You can see here that I have the same thread in both my Tutorials folder and my Pretty Things folder.

If you accidentally selected the wrong folder when you added your thread, or you decide you'd like to refile it somewhere else, just go into the folder you're moving FROM and click this icon next to the thread you'd like to move.

This will give you a dialogue box with only the other bookmark folders listed. Simply choose where you'd like to move the thread to.

If you would just like to remove a thread from a specific folder, just click this icon while you're within the folder where the thread appears.

This will bring up a dialogue box asking you to confirm your request. This will only delete the thread from the folder, it won't delete it from your bookmarks entirely.

If you want to remove a thread from your bookmarks entirely, simply go your full Bookmarks list and click this icon.

You will need to verify that you do want to delete the bookmark entirely.

Once you've done that, you can see that it is removed from your Bookmarks list AND from any Bookmark Folders where it previously appeared.

Once you've got your folders all set up, when you add a new bookmark, you can now add it directly to a folder if you wish!

Also, if you've made it to the end, here's another exciting mini-announcement! Just as you can jump to a specific page in a thread, you can now do that with an entire board! Wanna see all the cool stuff posted year ago? Just select a page of the board in the drop down and go there instantly!

You'll see this "Jump to page:" drop down in all boards.

When you click on it you'll see the first 20 pages

but you can scroll through to whereever you'd like

and once you select the page, you'll get taken right to that page!

This hasn't even sunk in for me yet...  I didn't know this was coming, and really didn't even know how cool of an idea it was.  All I know is, I bookmark things with the idea that I'll never look them up again.  Or if I do, I will spend an hour trying.  I never even thought, 'boy, bookmark organization would be brilliant,' but here it is, and it so will be.

How fun! I do kinda wish that they would be removed from the main list when I put them in the folder, but I guess when I get them all put into folders I can just ignore the main list! Cheesy

I completley take that back, at first I thought it was weird that they were still on the main list, but now that everything is folder-ized, I like it! I can still easily access topics I keep wanting to go back to easily without looking in a folder (my swaps and craft alongs especially!)

I thought the same thing! Having them disappear from the main list would make it easier to keep track of which ones I bookmarked already. But, I really just have to sit and go through them, keep track of where I left off and chip away at them. Once it's done, having the master list (especially for at-a-glance "new" posts), will work. So far, I am loving the new system!

I agree, I wish they DID disappear from the main list because I classified a few of them the other day but now I want to do more I can't tell which ones I did already! Especially as the order of the main list changes according to which threads have new posts. At least, when you click on the green plus sign, it should tell you which folders (if any) the bookmark is already in.

But anyway, this is only a problem at the start, when the bookmarks aren't classified. Once you start classifying them when you make the bookmark, the problem disappears.

Thank you for adding this functionality! It was something I'd wished for for a long time.

Good ideas. Smiley The reason we didn't immediately change it so that the threads disappeared once they were filed, is because if they stay in the list, then you have the opportunity to file them in multiple folders. We hadn't come to a good solution yet but these are good ideas that I'll take to the tech team as options. Smiley

Cool. On flickr pics indicate everywhere they are stored. I don't think it needs to be that fancy pantsy but something showing you've filed a b'mark somewhere already would be groovy.

Can't really complain about much though, lol, How long have we been pining for this awesome feature? I'm pretty happy!

I am so appreciative of this feature, I can't even begin to express it! I did notice that when I bookmark something from the "Recent with Pictures," which is where I do most of my bookmarking from, doesn't give you the option to select a folder. Can that be added? That would be ace...

This is a wonderful change, and I thank you heartily for it! But add me to the list of folks wishing we could delete bookmarks from the main list once they're filed. I understand you want to allow for bookmarking something into multiple folders. But, if I want to do that, I'll leave it in the main folder as well. If I know I don't want to, I'd like the option of deleting. I have about a gazillion bookmarks, and it'd make things a lot easier!
But even just like it is, it's great. I really need to block out some time and sit and sort more of mine into folders, I've just gotten started.
Thanks!

Is there a way to move bookmarks out of the main folder into other folders in a group? I am finally around to sorting through mine and there are so many, I'm having to click on each one individually, move it, then wait for the page to reload to click on another one. Also, unless I have the time to sit and do them all right now, if I come back to it later on there is not an indication showing which ones have been moved and already live in a folder and which ones I have yet to get to.
One other thing, is there a way to change what I've named a folder? I realize that I can group more than just "Paper" together but I don't know how to go back and alter the title of that folder without having to delete it, open it anew and remember everything I filed there, then go back and move each topic one by one Tongue.

Thank you!

Is there a way to move bookmarks out of the main folder into other folders in a group?

To my knowledge, there isn't currently a way to do that.  Undecided

Also true. The only thing I can suggest is to start at the bottom and keep track of where you leave off. (Since those threads haven't been replied to most recently they're most likely to stay in the same order.) Sorry i don't have a better answer!

One other thing, is there a way to change what I've named a folder? I realize that I can group more than just "Paper" together but I don't know how to go back and alter the title of that folder without having to delete it, open it anew and remember everything I filed there, then go back and move each topic one by one Tongue.

I don't believe you can do that, either, but it'd be easiest to leave them all there and add them to a new folder first, then delete the old folder.  Sorry!

These are good ideas for the future, though. Smiley

Craftylittlemonkey, I simply opened another window and kept my place that way. It did take me about two days to complete but that is the only way I knew how to keep my place and to surf and to do some then get up from the computer and go about my stuff then return. When I turned off my computer I just wrote down the last one I did and continued the next day.  I hope that helps.

Dang it. I'll have to sit down and do it all in one fell swoop sometime I guess. The thing about leaving part for another day Jinjeet is that if someone posts a reply in one of the topics you have bookmarked it will move out of line so you could easily miss some. I had about 4 windows open, lol. One for adding new folders as I came across topics that didn't fit in one I had created already. It was messy and disorganized and beyond me at that moment in time I'm afraid. I'll try again later...

That's why I left one window open for my bookmarks and did not refresh it all day. It stayed static. Sorta like a bookmark for my bookmarks. I kept the next one at the very top of the page to keep my place. In the window that I was actually working with did change with the "new" topics but when I would reach that specific topic and it wasn't there cause it "moved" to the top, I'd just look for it. I hope that makes sense. It did take a long time and a lot of patience but we only need to do it once and it's done.
Gosh, I hope that made sense. It really went pretty smoothly once I figured out to just open one window and not touching it and working with the other.
Now I wish I could just "collapse" the folder area cause I like to follow some ongoing topics and leave my bookmark page open.

Sorry!

I came to this thread looking for an answer to the question craftylittlemonkey had but I was hoping for a different answer than this.  I'd LOVE to see a way to change the folder name as I've already twice wanted to change one and the current method is a pain.

SO excited that we can now jump to a specific page on a board!  Whew...I had absolutely given up trying to find out what happened on the craftyhousewares:completed projects:general board page 63 when I had to start at page 3 and go 3 by 3 from there...

What's the chance that we can make that feature apply to searching through the 8799 of pages of users/members board?  Even to try and find myself, knowing my own username, is almost impossible---even starting with the letter W I find myself having to go through the laborious process of paging through tons of users with names starting with W.---It's so cumbersome that I have completely written off the "ViewAllMembers" board all together!

Jump to page in the member list is a good idea, but I'm wondering why you'd ever want to find yourself (or anyone else whose name you knew) that way! The search is so much easier.

Also, until that exists, if you want to jump pages there you can always just change the number at the end. The pages are in multiples of 30. So if you're at http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=mlist;sort=realName;start=263820 and you want to jump back 600 names (20 pages) you change it to http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?action=mlist;sort=realName;start=263220

Super-quick answer!  Awesome!

Oh, that totally works---I mean changing the number in the url itself.  I had no idea that was possible! Smiley

As for why do it?  It's not really about searching for names I know.

It's other information.  Like members I don't know.

For example, sometimes I just feel the urge to see what kind of ingenious names other craftsters have come up with for their username.  Or, in the case where my friend was newly joining craftster and wanted to come up with a username for herself, we were interested in seeing what names had already been used that were similar to the ones she was considering choosing.

I get fascinated by usernames, and sometimes feel the urge to browse the list just to see the fun places my mind goes in response to usernames.  (Okay, yeah, I'm weird! lol)

Is it possible to get the folder option when bookmarking from the
"Recent With Pictures" section? I usually just skim them when I'm busy and bookmark things as I go, but the "add to folder" option doesn't come up. So then, later when I have more time (which could be days), I have to try and remember which ones I've recently added but haven't filed away.

Same here.  I'd love for there to be a way to edit the folder name instead of having to move things to a new folder.
