I made this hoop for the silhouette/negative space round of the Hoopla.

My original idea was to try to do a sunset type of look with grasses as a black silhouette against it. I putz'd around with different fabrics but couldn't get the sunset to look quite right so I headed back to the store and found this black and grey striped fabric. I decided to flip my original idea and do a black sunset-looking background with a bright silhouette against it.

The pattern was inspired by a similar design in a crewel book that I have. I used a bunch of stitches including; back, frenk knot, split, chain and stem.

Thanks for looking!

It is beautiful; it reminds me of the sky before it rains, and the grasses are so well done.

so so beautiful.  Yay for the good accident of the black and grey fabric, I think it took you somewhere special and unique with this colour story.

I believe I have this very same crewel book and have wanted to do something similar.  I just couldn't figure out what to use the pattern with.  I would never have thought of a printed fabric.  Now I am and it has opened up a whole new world of possibilities.

Thanks for sharing your lovely piece.

LimeRiot - I am headed home today and plan to look through the book in hopes of putting together a pattern.

I have two good reasons - a) I am working on a huge project that is going to take forever and I need a break b) I would like a small project for an upcoming trip.  I'll be on a train for 30 hours.

I think I may use fabric from an old button up shirt from Mr. Boo.

Thanks for the inspiration.
