I made this Octo-Bear for Alchamy513 in the March Birthday Swap.  My partner got it yesterday and she said it's the best stuffed animal ever--yay!

This is not my usual style; I used a stuffie on her pinterest as a guide.  I used the pattern from the Mystery Critter Swap for the head and body.  I happened to have some black and white checkerboard fleece on hand, which worked great for the legs.  I spent a lot of time thinking about how to do the legs, but once I started working on them, they went together quickly and easily, and differently than I had planned!

The mouth is a zipper, and inside I put an arcade ticket, a fortune-cookie fortune, and a tiny key.

Tied onto the black ribbon around the neck is a large key that says "secret" and a token that says "unique".

I like going outside my comfort zone like this, it makes me grow as a crafter, and things I learned from making this stuffie will transfer to future projects.

How clever! This is so creative and fun.

Did you put anything in the legs to keep them sturdy?

Yes, the legs have some fairly heavy wire running from end to end, so they can be repositioned any way.  I ended up using a single length of wire for each of the four pairs of legs, which really adds stability to the structure.

Thanks, everyone!

This is the first time in my life I've every had to ask myself, "What is the difference between spider legs and octopus legs?" because, as I was making it, it occurred to me that it could easily end up looking like a spider-bear.  Of course, spider legs are stiff and jointed, whereas octopus legs are curly and not jointed--so it's really how you pose the legs that makes the difference.
