I just finished playing Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and when I saw red hearth-shaped lamp beads in a craft store I could not resist... I used two gold plated copper wire (thick and thin, don't ask me about gauges...), round-nose pliers and skin of my fingertips.

I am just learning to do filigree so it's full of nicks and scratches...

And look! Its double sided so twice the pain fun!

Pretty shimmer, ain't? Cheesy

I also bought some smaller hearths to make life chains. They miss locks but I'm posting them anyway. Wink From upper chain pessimist might say "Almost dead." and optimist "Still alive!". I thought it could be used when one has beaten a tough challenge like boss enemy or course exam. I'm specially proud of the one on below. I tried to make it look like life meter from Twilight Princess which has best graphical design IMHO... Sorry about the shadows, I had to use extra lightning to get the pictures.

Here is also nice detail of backside, prevents them from rolling around. Grin

I like the little hearts to prevent the rolling around, such a nice accent/detail.

Great job!!

Thanks Grin I'm quite proud of that big Hearth Container. It took me two evenings, three nails ans lots of patience since my wire snapped three times in a row. I haven't decided weather I should wear it on that chain (in pictures above) or in a leather cord... What do you think?

I have one more big hearth for another, but my fingers are still a little bit sore...

I should wear your heart with the chain, they match so I think it looks good!

And when I was crocheting for hours and hours, my hands and fingers hurt so much! I can imagine yours hurt even more!! You'd better do something else for a few days and let your hand/fingers/nails rest a bit.... (Hahaha, that is what I didn't do... didn't improve the hurt or feeling, but hey I wanted to finish and learn how to crochet properly  Roll Eyes )

I have never played Zelda... (funny for me, for that was the name of my beloved grandmother, so I guess I played WITH Zelda quite a bit).

But I heart this so much it hurts.

Too new to know how to wist, but I certainly would!!!

I've been wanting to try filigree and your heart charm is very inspiring.

It's the best compliment that I have inspired someone! I say go for it PixelSaurus, give it a try (I recommend using pliers, though)!

This is absolutely gorgeous!! Cheesy I love how you made the backside to the dangling hearts I would say its the front side because its extra cute! ^__^ You could wear it either way since the big heart is double sided! I think you did an excellent job. I had to pin it because I just think its so beautiful I wish I could do this sort of wire work and not want to fling the crap across the room LOL <3

beautiful! and I can empathize with the pain and finger wear. I had to discontinue wire work for a while! sticking to weaving and polymer clay to let my finger-cracks heal Smiley

Wow, it is amazing how detailed and intricate it is. Was it hard to make it symmetrical on such a tiny scale? I want to learn to do this kind of wire wrapping, and I don't think I've ever seen it before. Is there a name for the technique? Well, anyway, it is beautiful. I hope you don't mind, but I included a picture of this beautiful project as inspiration on my blog (linked and credited, of course). Let me know if thats alright. The article is at http://sticktoyourglueguns.wordpress.com/2012/12/31/crafty-resolutions-13-crafts-for-2013/

Yayy! I'm amazed and really proud humbled by this recognition!  Grin Grin

@winddragyn: It was a bit tricky to get it mostly symmetrical. I had design drawn on paper so I could compare my wire work on top of it during twistings. Technique is called filigree, and I got basics from book called "Boutique Bead&Wire Jewelry" by Melody MacDuffee (projeckt on page 104 is somewhat similar). It's also totally cool to appear in your blog! Grin
