Sushi to go... calorie light, but image heavy!

Not jewelry, not quite a trinket (to wear at least), but very definitely beaded!

I made these recently for the 100 things about me swap, Round 3.  My partner listed sushi as one of her 100 things and this project has been on my backburner for awhile, and the swap was a perfect opportunity to make this.



It was a rather finicky project but I love how they look all plated up.

My fish roe maki - either ikura or tobiko, your choice.  It has some bigger beads, so I am thinking ikura.

I plated it all on a pretty blue platter, with a traditional piece of plastic grass (what is with that?) that I had saved, and a pair of chopsticks, and vacuum packed it for safety - and freshness    - for shipping.



I posted more about it on my blog.  Very happy with how they turned out and may make a set for myself.

Whoa.  Those are pretty intense.  Definitely look like the real thing.  Amazing work!

How incredibly cute! From the thumbnail I thought it was yarn (which on itself would have been a great job), but I really like that you used beads. I could just eat it up!

Thank you - I have been craving sushi like mad since I started this project.  I was going to make a little dish of soy sauce too, but forgot to add that.  Maybe if I make a set for myself I will add that.

All the pieces are stuffed, except the ginger.  I actually had some cotton batting saved from medicine bottles which I reused in some of them too.  Trying to bead around the fill is just a bit annoying I must say!

With respect to the hassle with the cotton filling, you might want to consider affixing some clear tape around around the stuffing before beading around it (fewer little fibers escape, and it holds its shape).
