I have searched this forum, but still not really sure what to do.
The project concerned is painted coasters.
When I bought the coasters, I also bought some spray varnish that says it's fine on most surfaces including indoor furniture. I used some on a bedside table I'd painted. One day, well after it was dry and I thought, finished, someone put a bowl on it and all the surrounding paint smeared, so given I always follow instructions, I think this product was poor quality. So if you think a decent spray varnish should be fine, then I'd like some brand / product names please.
I went to my local art store and they recommended Kraftex Decopodge & Seal Coat. Both of these products were quite pricey for not much product. They were lovely and photocopied project instructions for me, however the instructions are intended for unpainted coasters, so I don't know how that would affect the result. Also it sounds very very easy to screw up.
I've been through here looking for anything that could work: Modgepodge hard coat or glue (what's the difference someone?) but I'm worried that will stay sticky; Krylon clear glaze, Valspar clear spray enamel/varnish, or some kind of acrylic gel medium or polycrylic. Again any actual product names or sites would be useful. I buy most stuff online anyway so I hope to find something easy to use that I can order, as I live in New Zealand so a lot of craft products aren't available here.
I thought this would be a fun simple project when I started it (over a year ago) and it's turned into a nightmare, damn it crafting you're too expensive
