My New Soap Molds!

So after two years of using half and half containers/pringles cans/weird plastic molds, my lovely boyfriend decided to make me not 1 but 3 new soap molds!

The loaf molds are three pounds, and I'm honestly not sure how much the bigger mold will hold but the dimensions are 10.5x10.5x1.75.  All three are beautifully sanded and we'll woodburn my logo onto the wooden knobs eventually.  I'll be trying it out this weekend, I'm so excited!

There's a formula for figuring out dimensions of mold to equal ounces of oil but it's pretty imprecise. I think it might be listed in the FAQ.

They actually unmolded perfectly!  I'd been afraid to use wood molds for years, but I searched them on Youtube and found a few videos that made it look really easy..  I double lined the inside of each mold with thick wax paper..  I thought some of the base might seep into the corners, but it didn't at all.  It really couldn't have been easier, that picture of the soap party shows how perfect the corners came out..  I'd really recommend wooden molds, they kept the soap insulated so well and I thought it was easier to unmold than even the milk cartons were!

why would you need hinges??? if you line them you can just yank the liner out with the soap..*bam*

no jerking and pulling. i use only silicon molds and tubing for round soaps. im going to build a wooden 10 pound mold maybe next week. i sketched up the plans but have been very busy im manufacturing melt and pour now

Honestly, if you are good at lining your molds with your freezer paper they are a breeze to unmold. Having said that, I think either all or like 90% of my molds do have hinges/some way to drop the sides....and in my 8ish years of soaping I can count the times I've *needed* to unhinge them to get the soap out on one hand
