Tiny French wedding cake

First of all I wanna say thank you to the ladies who introduced me to mixing gold powder with glaze. This has changed my polymer crafting life and I'm forever grateful. I almost cried tears of joy when I saw how beautiful the gold looked as I painted it on.

This cake has been an obsession of mine since I googled "Marie Antoinette wedding cake". I've had it saved and my computer for months and decided I needed to make it. It took me a total of 22 hours over the course of 4 days. the gold detailing took the longest. I dust on some shimmer on the purple ribbons prior to baking but it wasn't the impact I wanted so I used the same technique with the gold powder. I mixed some of my purple eyeshadow in with the glaze and painted on this shade. Love how it turned out, just like the real thing.

Topper. Tiny little man and woman that was so tricky. This probably took 2-3 hours of trial and error until it looked just right. I added a layer of white acrylic paint and glaze to give it that porcelain look.


Details! Love the gold so much. Don't think anything has made me this happy in a while(crafting-wise) After baking I trimmed some white ribbon and glued it around the base. Just like it is in the pic. I wanted to keep in all those details and not just keep it bare white clay.


With the real cake and with a quarter for scale. It comes to about 3 1/2 inches tall.


I had so much fun making this even though the details made me crazy. I'm very proud and happy with the result.

Ok. So my brain seriously cannot handle how fully amazing this is. As in whole new levels of wow-ness. It is absolutely stunning, and it looks exactly like the original (although I like the slightly different shades of purple you have on yours better!). The flower layers are particularly magnificent, but all the wee details astound me. This completely rocks.

I am in awe of the little figurines on top. I love the entire thing though! I have done some cakes myself but nothing this intricate. And have been wanting to branch out but I don't think I could do this well.

That's adorable! I totally want to eat this too! I love craft books and I can't wait to add a few more to my collection on polymer clay. That glaze powder idea works fabulously on your little cakes. Hmm Good!
