In "How I tortured my pet today": Dog footwear (and we all know how they hate those Grin)

When temperature sinks below -20C my mutt needs something to keep his toes warm. So I knitted him boots and felted them on washer to make them thick and tight.

They got velcro sewed on tape on the side and somehow sewing was easier from the inside of boot. Being some sort of a perfectionist I even put velcros on different sides depending on is it for a left- or right foot Smiley  Here is also comparison between new boots and old, store-bought ones. Knitted boots don't have heavy seams inside them and I think wool is better for paws than neoprene...

I also added rubbery paw prints on bottom to prevent my to-be-agility-champion from slipping. And so we are all geared up and ready to go!

So cute!  Will you be doing agility trials?

Great job. What did you use for the paw prints?
I love his coat. Did you make that as well?

Thank you all, your comments made me smile like Grin

Actually, we haven't participated in any competitions so far, my champion-to-be have a tendency to amuse himself by running around in circles on the track... preferably with a squeaky toy.. But we keep on training and he loves it!

Paw prints were made with stuff called Viscous Latex. I bought it from a yarn store and it's purposed to use on soles to make non-slip socks.

And yes, I made the coat as well  Cheesy so of course I had to make matching boots!

Great job on both. Did you use a commercial pattern for the coat or make up your own? I usually have to make my own for my little whippet X as he doesn't fit any commercial ones.

BTW, I do agility as well. My dog spent the first 2 years of training running around the barn with horse poop in his mouth but now he does very well in competition.

I made pattern myself using the most easiest method: I placed my dog lying on a newspaper and then traced the outlines. It got just one seam in the center of the back. Usually I prefer dog coats that cover underbelly too, but this time I wanted to make blanket-type coat that I can just throw on his back during training breaks.
