I just made a bathing suit! I'm not very experienced at creating my own patterns, and I was afraid of sewing lycra, but I'm glad I finally did it. It actually fits great and I'm much happier with it than I have been with a bathing suit in a long time.

To make it slightly supportive and not too invisible without having to do complicated lining things, I just used a double layer of fabric (right-side in on the inside). I made the pattern by estimating from a pair of leggings and a tank top. Oh, and the legs were finished before, but I cut them off because they were too long at first.

Complete tutorial on my blog, here: http://www.ironcityalchemy.com/2012/03/how-to-make-bathing-suit-with-legs.html

I love that you chose back and white stripes for this, it lends the bathers that touch of vintage class.

Thanks, I spent forever looking for that fabric, because vintage suits were my inspiration for doing a longer suit in the first place. I was a little worried about how all those vertical stripes would look on a bathing suit, but I am happy with how it turned out Smiley
