thesillyseemstress: I'm not really sure how long it took. I worked on it on and off for a couple months. I would just pick it up anytime my hands were idle and I was home. (It wasn't exactly a good travel project! )
Rodelphia: I'm sure you'll get to cables if you keep it up! Once you have the basics down, cables are really not that difficult.

weirdest knitting injury I ever had was nothing to do with my own craft, so it doesn't count like Rossie's, I just wanted to share hahaha. I was carrying my mum's knitting bag, and I was on roller skates (we didn't do safety in our house lol!). I fell... I still have a scar in one thigh from where a 4mm steel needle went into it when i fell onto the knitting bag... the look on my mum's face when I hobbled into the livingroom, still wearing rollerskates and with her needle sticking out of my thigh. weirdly, no blood got onto her knitting which was good because it was my new school uniform sweater she was working on!

I love this! I saw a scarf with the XO pattern a while ago and always thought of making an afghan out of it. Now I think I'm inspired to actually do it!

I like this! I'm just wondering: what kind of needles do you use for such a large piece? I don't knit myself, I just crochet, so this could be a stupid question, but when my mother knits, the entire work stays on het needles. Do you just really bunch it up very far? And still have incredibly long needles? or does it go differently?

This reminds me of a sweater that my Mother used to wear when I was little that my Grandmother made for her. Same color and everything. I saw it and thought "Mommy". That would be an awesome afghan for curling up in on days when I want my Mommy ! I guess eventually I'm gonna have to learn to knit and do cables.

I used interchangeable circular needles with a long cable in between. Like this.
