You do a knit round after each round of increase?  Yea, I think I read that wrong, I was doing all the increases, then one knit round then all the decreases and a knit round. 
I feel dumb 
That's probably it.  I did switch to a non-metal needle too, I think that might help

I made that same mistake with my very first puff. I don;t know how I missed it It took about an hour of wading through ravelry help posts(I'm just bad at using their forums) to figure it out.

started my first puff tonight - took me ages to work out the decreases - why didn't she just say 'k 2 tog through back of loops'? once I'd worked out thats what she meant I was ok.

that is exactly the bit I mean! seemed to take *forever* for me to work it out, going step by step through the instructions, and then I realised it was knit through the backs of the loops (if it isn't - it's near as d4nm it and works for me!!)

I hope everyone had fun and I would be tickled pink to personal swap for more yarn or open up another round if enough people are interested....cuz I am all out of swapped yarn

I'd be game for another round. One can never have too big a variety of colors
