ok - question for all you hand dyers!

I was given some yarn of unknown content a while ago and been using kool-aid and food colouring to dye it but getting some really weird results - blue dye gave green yarn, green dye = yellow yarn and strangest of all today red dye has given me GREY yarn! (used vinegar with all of them)

Any ideas whats going on? (I'll also pop over to the yarnie forums and have a look at info there) I don't really mind, as its more interesting, but interested to get some idea about what is going on Grin

Those dyed skeins are so pretty! I wish I had the time/resources to do it myself.

I have a question about the yarns we're swapping. Do most people prefer wool, cotton or blends? Not that anyone here could be considedered the least bit snobby, but I was once snubbed(elsewhere) for not gifting the right type of yarn. I don't want to disappoint any of my partners here Sad

the commercial yarn I've mini skeined is all a washable wool/acrylic blend, but I have no idea what the stuff I'm dyeing is! I would like to receive similar types of yarn, but am up for anything that my partners care to send Cheesy

Did we ever figure this out?  I'm curious as well Smiley

pugwash, no fretting is allowed in this swap Wink

I can't speak for everyone (obviously Wink), but I think you'll do fine by your partners as long as you send out yarns that you would be happy to receive Smiley

I am an equal opportunity yarn kind of girl.
That said, if anyone is horribly UNHAPPY (also UNlikely) with your yarn choice they can pass it along and not include it in their blanket. easy peasy lemon squeezy.

I have literally knit everything in my stash for puff-purposes. I can take a chance on a puff and if I don't like it, it won't get included in the final piece. That is what is so excellent about this pattern!

give puffs a chance!

Pugwash - I personally haven't knit long enough to have mega preferences or opinions on yarn.  My 2 things, does it feel nice does it look nice?  If you're choosing yarns you yourself would like to receive - you should be perfect Smiley
And like loudxmouse said, if someone doesn't like it, they don't have to use it

Could be the double fudge chocolate brownie (which I just consumed) that's talking...but I really do think that we have the nicest group of hexi-puffs yarnies in this swap Cheesy
