My first attempt at Embroidery

I've been wanting to try out embroidery for awhile because I think it is beautiful and I like the freedom embroidery allows; however, I was nervous because I'm a long time cross stitched used to following a specific pattern. I wasn't sure how to make the stitches the same lengths or what type of stitches are used for different designs.

I picked up a kit from Sublime Stitching around December and I've been staring at it, thinking I was going to mess it up. Gathering up the courage, I started on kit yesterday. I used the transfer sheet and ironed the picture of Our Lady of Guadalupe onto a piece of white fabric which resulted in beautiful Mary imprint on the white fabric, as well as the cover of my ironing board.


I used a combination of backstitching, slip stitching and stem stitching. I really like split stitching. Sublime stitching include a nice little reference sheet and the three stitching techniques and chain stitching. I also liked that the transfer sheet was reusable.

I actually meant to add beads around the sun's rays but I was so excited about how quickly I was able to finish the completed picture I framed it immediately using adhesive board and a glassless frame.

Wow, for a first attempt the stitches actually look really even. Pretty!
