My Hunger Games swap partner received today so I can finally post this!
I'm pretty proud of it because it's by far the most detailed embroidery hoop I've ever tried. I call him Roger, we spent a lot of time together over the last month and became close friends. The fucker stabbed me a lot but it's ok, I forgave him after he patiently listened to all my late-night rants about how I'm just so exasperated with the political climate in this country. And then I found out his sister (a green plastic hoop) died last week and I felt like such a jerk for going on and on about nonsense.
Aaanyway, I used to only ever use maybe 5 types of basic stitches. For this one I used French knots, colonial knots, stem stitch, whipped backstitch, split stitch, rope stitch, Lazy Daisy, Oyster stitch, Raised Cup stitch, lots of Fishbone stitch manipulations, aaand Satin. The biggest challenge was figuring out a bunch of different ways to do the trees so that the forest would look interesting.
Now for the arena itself. I took some artistic license with the geography to make it fit pretty in the hoop, so it's not quite canon but everything that happened in the book is represented inside. Here is a list of all those little things -
(don't read this if you want to avoid spoilers of the book!) the cornucopia with tribute platforms, career tent, a tracker jacker near the spring, Thresh's grainy domain, a few little brown bunnies, Nightlock berries, Katniss' arrow, parachute gift, the cave, and of course a mockingjay.

This is the picture my partner took. The lighting in my pics is bad so this shows the texture better.

Also, for anyone who missed the big Hunger Games swap, there's still time left to sign up for the OTT one!
