A few months back I got a few tea tins from an awesome place called Specialty Bottle. They've been loitering around my supply closet glaring at me, so I started mucking around with one and this is what I came up with.

It started out looking like this, just a plain old metal tin.

As I was fooling around with it, I noticed the top is in two parts. Bingo! Had an idea.....

I covered the tin, the outside of the lid and the inside of the lid with a paper I liked.....

I marked the center of each piece of the lid and drilled a hole in each side using a pin vice.

Rummaging around in my stash, I found a finial from a clock, painted it and sealed it was some sparkly nail polish. I used a short screw, a washer and nut and attached it to the underside of the top piece of the lid.
I built an inside flower/treasure thingy using brass findings that I enameled with nail polish, some beads and wire. And using wire, I anchored it to the inside of the inside of the tin lid. When you pop the two pieces back together, it looks like it's all sprouting from the same place.

So when you lift the lid, you get a nice little surprise!

This was a lot of fun to make! If anyone has questions about how to do this, pm me!

The Pre- Raphaelite Brotherhood was a glorious moment in time, I love everything about their work, and you've captured it perfectly! It's so inspiring, I love it!

Thanks KC and Phizz! The Pre-Raphaelites are some of my favorite artists....the colors, compositions, subjects, how they lived their lives.....swoon. I used to love going to the Tate Gallery and just hang out in the Pre-Raph rooms.
Looking at their paintings makes me want to wear richly colored velvet all the time and read Christina's poetry!

I couldn't agree more! There is a wonderful art gallery in Manchester which has some fantastic pieces. I love visiting there! I did some work with their education department once with the Pre-Raphaelite works.

Have you ever seen the BBC's Desperate Romantics? It's marvelous! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1346018/

I own far too much velvet...and I blame them entirely! Cheesy

I've never seen the series, but will now! As for having too much velvet, perhaps that is a vice we share?  Grin Checking out the Manchester Galleries now......

And thank you glitterweazl for liking the tin so much!
