We did a Secret Santa swap on our HP forum, and originally, I wanted to embroider the Slytherin crest. The cross-stitch one, from The Leaky Cauldron. I started really early, got on really well, and then discovered an unforgivable mistake at the very beginning. At first, I wanted to tear it out, gently, and start over. Then, when I realised time was ticking away, I tried to tear the thread out, ruining the fabric in the process. *sigh* I have not looked at it since then, too afraid that I have properly ruined it...

So, I needed a replacement, and noticed the Circus Alphabet on Urban Threads. I bought the entire alphabet, and used the A (for her name) and the K (for his name). My sister helped me with the colours, because she is a genius. It was my first time doing a regular embroidery work, I mainly cross stitch. But I like it, and I hope you do too...

Together with the other gifts...

As the grateful recipient of this package, I have to respond now that I've found this here on craftster too! I really love the monograms, especially the nice touch that they have one colour in common in stead of both. I'm a sucker for symbolism and I tend to see it everywhere, even where none was intended. The colouring seems to say that we're alike, and that we go together very well, but that we're different, unique persons nonetheless.

Being a cross stitcher myself, one that's wanted to try embroidery but has been a bit too intimated by, it these are amazing!

And to the naked eye, your lines look straight, I can't tell where you see them going off. But we always see what's wrong with our work, while no one else might, don't we?

Your colors are wonderful, the floss really pops off the grey background. Their for the houses right? Your color choices I mean.

No, I am in no way a Gryffindor! I think of myself as a Ravenclaw, though Pottermore put in in Hufflepuff (which I have still not come to terms with!)

First of all, don't be afraid to try embroidery. Because you are a cross stitcher, you already have some feeling with floss, fabrics and needles. The most difficult part is to get the pattern unto your fabric. At least, that was my biggest issue. Using a darker fabric, it was a real struggle. I have a lot of that fabric left (It was used to make a robe, when I was in a coven), so I like to use it. Oh, and I'm pretty sure you'll love this way of stitching once you've tried it. Much more freedom, and didn't need to look up to check and count Wink.

Thank you for the compliment btw, it means a lot to me.

Funny you mention the colours. I only noticed whilst stitching that I picked Harry Potter house colours... Maybe I can put the blame on my sis, who put the colours in that order Tongue.
