1940s Reporter Outfit


I got a new messenger bag... a retro-looking CBC Radio-Canada 'Mobile Recording Kit' So of course, it required a retro reporter's outfit to match!

I used Simplicity 3688 for the blouse and skirt. And modeled the vest after some 40s style vest sketches (from pattern envelopes) I found online. The blouse is in poly silkessence, the skirt and vest in a wool-blend twill.


(And my first attempt at 'Victory Rolls'... a little bit  of a fail...)

Super cute! Looks amazing and totaly vintage, goes perfect with the bag.

I know there's a ton of sites on how to do victory rolls but what I've found to personally work is put a bunch or hairspray in your hair first and let it dry to give it texture. If you can find it Big Sexy Hair makes this "pow" texture/teasing powder that's amazing, that's what i use. Then tease the front with a teasing brush (works better than a teasing comb) then pull your hair up and either wrap it around your fingers to form the loops or do it around a curing iron. Hope that helps, it takes a few trys but once I got the hang of it I can usually do rolls in just a couple minutes.

Thanks for the advice guys. I don't think the technique I followed (online tutorial) was bad, I just don't have very good hair management skills at this point. But practice makes perfect, eh?
